$1 Million Announced for Hopedale Women’s Shelter
The Provincial Government announced an investment of around $1 million for the construction of a women’s shelter in Hopedale.
Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and MHA for the Torngat Mountains district, Patty Pottle, made the announcement in her community this morning.
The facility will replace the community’s former shelter which shut down in 2010.
The funds will assist with building and initial operation costs.
The shelter will be able to house up to three families.
The facility will also contain advanced security features such as a security camera system.
The tender for the women’s shelter will be put out late this summer.
