Concerned Labradorian Wants NG to Ban Uranium Mining

A concerned Labradorian wants people to join her in signing a petition to ban uranium mining in Labrador.

Jennie Williams of Nain drafted the petition.

Williams believes there is no safe or environmentally friendly way to mine uranium.

She feels the only information that the public, and Nunatsiavut Government officials alike, receive on the process is from uranium mining companies.

Williams has started a Facebook group, ‘Say No to Uranium Mining in Labrador’, where she tries to offer the other side of the story.

Williams wants Nunatsiavut to go the way of British Columbia and Nova Scotia and ban uranium mining outright.

She has created a petition calling for Labradorians to say no to uranium mining.

The petition is available both online and in hard copy.

Williams plans to distribute the petition throughout Labrador.

The petition comes just days after the Nunatsiavut Government gained the ability to revisit the moratorium currently in place on uranium mining.
