MHA Pottle Announces New Women’s Shelter and Houses for Hopedale

There were some big announcements made by MHA Patty Pottle last week in Hopedale.

Pottle announced funds from the province to construct a new women’s shelter in the community.

The Minister of Aboriginal Affairs says the community was without a women’s shelter since last year.

The shelter was closed due to the state of the old building.

Funds were also announced for three new homes for people who currently live on contaminated land.

Pottle says the new homes will be constructed this summer.

The construction of the new homes is a joint effort between the province, Nunatsiavut Government and Hopedale Inuit Community Government.

She adds the Hopedale Inuit Community Government will hold a meeting in the near future to discuss the PCB cleanup.

Stay tuned to AtjiKangitut to hear Pottle discuss the announcements in detail.
