Nain’s Community Freezer Up and Running
A new community freezer is up and running in Nain.
Donna Dicker is the Coordinator for the project.
She says the community freezer is a pilot project of the Nunatsiavut Government.
Dicker has been working with the project since January.
The tentative mission statement for the community freezer is: ‘building connections, passing on knowledge and encouraging community stewardship’.
She says she’s been contacting local hunters in an effort to get some wild foods for the freezer.
Polar bear, caribou, partridge, and char are currently available.
A grand opening is in the planning for the community freezer.
A date hasn’t been set for the event as of yet.
Dicker says she would like to thank those who have contributed to the freezer.
She would also like to encourage any others who are able to contribute to contact her at the old Nunatsiavut Government office.
