No Go for Some Labrador Seal Hunters
The low price of seal pelts this season has turned a number of sealers away from this spring’s hunt.
Seal pelts were sold for around $40 each in 2007.
That price has been decreasing year after year.
Seal pelts currently sell for around $20.
The low price has made a number of sealers decide not to participate in this springs hunt.
Ralph Tooktoshina of Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Joey Angnatok of Nain are among the seal hunters who are not bothering with this year’s hunt.
Both have cited the increasing price of fuel and insurance as factors contributing to their decision not to participate.
