Peter Penashue Elected MP for Labrador

Peter Penashue was elected the new Member of Parliament for Labrador following Monday’s Federal Election.

The election was one for the Labrador history books.

Penashue’s win ushers in a new era for politics in this region.

The Conservative’s win is the first Labrador has seen since 1968.

Labrador was the only seat the Conservatives managed to claim in this province.

Penashue’s win came as somewhat of a surprise.

Many had declared the incumbent MP, Liberal Todd Russell, the winner early on in the count.

Penashue managed to win the seat after all the ballots were counted with 4,234 votes.

Liberal Todd Russell collected just over 4,000 votes.

The NDP Candidate, Jacob Larkin, had a historical showing with 2,099 votes.

That is the most votes the party has ever received in this riding.

George C R Barrett, the Green Party Candidate, received 136 votes.

Stay tuned to OK Radio to hear the newly-elected MP for Labrador talk about his historic win and what it means for Labrador.
