Reception At Government House Recognizes Nunatsiavut’s Fifth Anniversary
A reception was held at the Government House in St. John’s yesterday in recognition of the fifth anniversary of the creation of Nunatsiavut and the Torngat Mountains National Park.
The event was hosted by Newfoundland and Labrador’s Lieutenant Governor, John C. Crosbie.
MUN Political Science student, Caitlyn Baikie, attended the reception.
She says it was an amazing experience.
Also in attendance were representatives from the Nunatsiavut Government, Parks Canada, the Innu Nation and Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami.
Baikie says several speeches were made during the reception.
The Lieutenant Governor spoke about his experience in the national park this past summer.
Baikie says it was a moving speech and Crosbie seemed genuinely touched by his experience in the park.
President Lyall also delivered a speech where he spoke of the progress of the Nunatsiavut Government so far and what he believes the future of the government holds.
Baikie says the St. John’s Drum Dancers also performed for the people in attendance.
