This Polar Bear Season Officially Best on Record

This year’s polar bear season is officially the best on record.

The latest bear was harvested by Postville resident, Samantha Jacque, earlier this month.

Jacque’s polar bear was a seven-foot male.

Her successful hunt makes this the best season on record.

James Goudie is the Wildlife Manager for the Nunatsiavut Government.

He says the latest catch officially puts this season ahead of 1989’s.

The Nunatsiavut Government has records that span back as far as 1980.

Only two more polar bear licenses remain from the 11 that were available this season.

One resident in both Makkovik and Rigolet still has a chance to claim their share of the quota.

The season ends June 30.
