A Recap of This Season’s Fishery in Nunatsiavut

It was an exceptional season this year at the Nain fish plant compared to the year before.

Keith Watts is the General Manager for the Torngat Fish Producers Cooperative.

He says the Nain fish plant closed in the middle of August after processing char for about one month.

The amount of char landed at the plant this summer was more than double what the facility saw last season.

Around 40,000 pounds of char was landed compared to last year’s 20,000 pounds.

Watts says the plant in Makkovik had a season similar to last year’s.

The facility processed crab and turbot throughout the summer.

Stay tuned to OK Radio to hear Watts provide a recap of this year’s fishery.
