Charges Laid after Fatal Vehicle Collision on NWR Road

A vehicle collision on the North West River road claimed the life of a young man over the weekend.

Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision about halfway between the community and North West River.

RCMP arrived on the scene just before 5 a.m. on Saturday.

RCMP had found that a car had collided with a pickup truck sending the car into a nearby pond.

The driver and a passenger of the car were able to escape the vehicle.

The other 22-year-old male passenger was trapped inside the car and pronounced dead at the scene.

A cause of death has yet to be determined.

The two people who managed to escape the vehicle were transported by ambulance and treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the car is now facing several charges including impaired driving causing death.

Nathan Cluney is also facing a breach of undertaking.

He is scheduled to appear in provincial court for a bail hearing tomorrow.

An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
