Drilling at 10 Mile Bay Quarry

Even though it’s late in the summer, a few Ten Mile Bay Quarry crew members are back to work at the site to do some drilling.

Chris Webb is the Assistant Manager of Labrador Inuit Development Corporation (LIDC).

He says a crew of six started ground work on August 29 to prepare the quarry site before the drill arrived and drilling started.

Webb says the crew is drilling on the hill around the area where they made a road couple of years ago.

They are looking to see where there is good rock and including where the rock color varies.

Webb says a rock specialist is on site and will determine the condition of the rock from samples drilled.

A local crew of 4 members and two from Quebec has drilled two holes and are drilling the third hole for core sampling.

He says it’s hard to tell as of yet how long the drilling will take place, but they are looking at about 5 to 6 weeks of work.

Webb added LIDC hopes to have a better idea on how good the rock is by the time the drilling is done and be more prepared for 2012 season.
