Fuel Prices Frozen for At Least another Week

A lot of consumers stocked up on fuels this week believing the price freeze would be lifted last Thursday.

Well, you’ve got another week to take advantage of the frozen prices.

Fuel prices were not adjusted last Thursday as many people had expected.

Gas prices did take a little jump elsewhere in the province.

The price of gasoline rose by 0.2 cents per litre across Newfoundland last Thursday

Consumers in central Labrador are now paying $1.38 per litre of gasoline.

Gas prices were an average of 21 cents higher in Nunatsiavut than in central Labrador without the price freeze in effect.

We could have been paying about $1.59 per litre of gasoline if the price freeze was lifted last Thursday.

That’s an increase of nearly 20 cents from the frozen price of almost $1.40 per litre.

The price freeze is lifted once new fuel supplies are shipped into the communities.

The Woodward Group of Companies’ oil tanker was anchored in Nain’s harbour on Friday.

That means it’s very likely the price freeze will be lifted next week.

Fuel prices are adjusted by the Board of Commissioners of Public Utilities every Thursday, if necessary.

That means consumers in Nunatsiavut have at least one more week to take advantage of the frozen prices.
