Hopedale PCB Survey Complete

A survey to determine how much PCB contamination is in the Hopedale harbor has been completed.

Patty Pottle is the MHA for the Torngat Mountains District and Minister of Aboriginal Affairs.

She says tests done on mussels, fish and other sea mammals in the harbor has been sent out and they are now waiting for results.

Pottle says a company from St. John’s has been hired to work on the PCB clean-up in Hopedale. The company is now waiting for their equipment and work will continue through the fall.

As for the news on the oil tank replacement program NLHC is still compiling applications received from the north coast communities.

She says NLHC is still reviewing the applications, and to date about a hundred applications has been processed.
