Hopedale RCMP Continue to Crack Down on Drugs

RCMP arrested a man in Hopedale Tuesday who was trying to ship drugs into the community.

Approximately 544 grams of marijuana were seized by RCMP at the Hopedale airport.

The drugs were wrapped in garbage bags and further wrapped inside of diapers.

Those diapers were stuffed inside of a microwave.

The going price for a gram of marijuana in Hopedale is $30 according to community members.

That means the drugs have a street value of over $16,000.

A 42-year-old man is now facing charges of possession and trafficking of a controlled substance.

This is the latest in a number of busts in Hopedale in the last six months.

Constable Henry Broomfield says the successful drug busts can be attributed to the community’s cooperation.

Broomfield says they received direction from the community’s residents to crack down on drugs in Hopedale.

This latest bust was due to a tip from a community member.
