Hydro Rates Increase This Month
Hydro rates went up for most costumers in Newfoundland and Labrador this month.
Nunatsiavut consumers saw an average rate increase of 7.6 percent on July 1.
Residents who use under 10 kilowatts of electricity will see an increase of 5.8 percent.
Those who use over 10 kilowatts will see a rate increase of 7.5 percent.
Consumers who used 100 kilowatts of energy paid nearly $116 before the increase.
They will now pay just over $124.
Consumers in communities like Happy Valley-Goose Bay and Labrador City, who are connected to the power grid, will see no increase at all.
A representative for NL Hydro says the rate increase is mainly due to the rising price of fuels.
A newsletter explaining the increase will be included in this month’s hydro bill.
