Nain Char Fishery Shaping Up
The char fishery in Nain is shaping up to be quite a success following a slow start at the beginning of the season.
Deidi Kohlmeister, the Office Supervisor at the Nain plant, says 26,000 pounds of char has been landed to date.
Six fishermen are harvesting the char with 22 plant employees processing the catches.
Meanwhile, the crab fishery in Makkovik is wrapping up for this season.
Junior Andersen is the Production Manager at Makkovik’s plant.
He says there is one small crew left that’s gone to pick up their gear and that’ll be it.
Crab landed to date is 821,981 pounds.
Andersen says the turbot fishery is now getting underway in the area.
Two turbot boats left Makkovik Friday morning and others have gone straight to the turbot fishing grounds.
The turbot season opened Friday, August 5.
