Name Change for Federal Department

There were some big changes made to the federal government last week.

Another change that has been made is the title of one of the federal departments.

The Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development is now known as the Department of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the change last week.

He says the change better reflects the responsibilities and mandate of the department.

The new name will be phased-in accordingly.

The department is currently developing an action plan to determine how to implement the change.

The changes include modifications to the department’s website, signage, letterhead and forms.
