NICG Encountering Problems with Proposed Multi-Purpose Centre Site

Preliminary results from soil sampling at the proposed site of the new multi-purpose centre in Nain haven’t been producing promising results.

Tony Andersen is the AngajukKak of the Nain Inuit Community Government.

He says the capital works projects planned for Nain this season were on the agenda during a special meeting of the NICG Thursday evening.

The proposed site for the new multi-purpose centre is located in the new sub-division, near the road to Trouser Lake.

Andersen says the preliminary results from soil testing at the site haven’t been producing good results.

The NICG is now planning to carry out further soil testing at the site.

AngajukKak Andersen says they may have to start scouting out a new location depending on the results of those tests.

That may pose a problem with the limited amount of available land in the community and the size of the $5.6 million facility.

The multi-purpose centre will house a number of services including a fitness centre, large kitchen, community radio station and space for community gatherings.
