Numbers Up at English River Fish Counting Station

The numbers are up this summer at the English River fish-counting station.

Morris Jacque is the Supervisor of the fish count program in Postville.

He says there was an increase in the number of char and salmon counted at the station this year.

The crew counted 551 salmon so far this summer.

That’s a huge increase from last year’s count of 49 salmon.

Jacque says they also counted 401 smaller salmon which is an increase from last year’s figure as well.

The crews also counted nearly 2,000 char.

450 of the char were considered large.

Jacque says they would remove the scales of ten of the fish each day.

The scales would be used to determine the age of the fish.

Jacque says the count started on the first day of July and runs until mid-October.
