Numbers Up for ‘Pride in the Park’
Interest increased this year for the second annual ‘Pride in the Park’ event in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
‘Pride in the Park’ aims to raise awareness and acceptance of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
Denise Cole is the Co-Chair of Safe Alliance who helped organize the event.
She says Sunday was a day full of fun entertainment for the whole family.
Entertainment was provided by local entertainers such as The Inosuttuit Nipingit, Upper Lake Melville’s drum dancers.
Information booths were also setup which provided information to the 100-150 people who attended.
Cole says she would like to thank all of the people who made this year’s event such a success.
Among the supporters was the Town of Happy Valley-Goose Bay who flew the pride flag all weekend.
The town also committed a stronger involvement to next year’s event.
Cole adds that she’s pleased by the strong presence from the North coast this year.
She says they’re hoping to find interested individuals who may want to expand the event into communities on the North coast next year.
