PCB Cleanup Expected to Begin Next Month
The remediation work to the contaminated sites in and around Hopedale is expected to begin in August.
Wayne Piercy is the AngajukKâk for the Hopedale Inuit Community Government.
He was one of the people who attended a meeting in the community earlier this month when the provincial government discussed a remedial action plan.
Piercy says crews are expected to begin carrying out remediation efforts in August.
The planned locations are the old dump pond, the new sub-division and the main base.
Sampling in the community’s harbour is also planned.
Piercy says the samples will determine if the contaminants have made their way into the water surrounding the community.
The upcoming remediation efforts are part of a three-year project.
