PCB Sampling Taking Place in Hopedale Harbour

Sampling of the marine life in Hopedale’s harbour is taking place to determine the extent of PCB contamination.

Wayne Piercy is the AngajukKak of the Hopedale Inuit Community Government.

He says employees of Aivek/Stantech are scheduled to arrive in the community today to begin the work.

They will be sampling marine life, such as shellfish, flatfish and migratory fish, to determine if PCBs have
made it into the food chain.

The sampling is part of the provincial government’s ongoing remediation plan to clean up the contamination left in and around Hopedale from the former American military site.
