Price Freeze May be lifted Thursday

Gas stations along the north coast are receiving higher amounts traffic than usual this week as consumers anticipate the lifting of the price freeze on fuels.

The price freeze will be lifted once suppliers are able to ship fuels into Nunatsiavut communities.

Well, that may very well be Thursday.

Woodward’s Group of Companies’ oil tanker was en route to Nain on Wednesday.

Nain is the last community in Nunatsiavut to receive new fuel supplies.

Reg Coombs is the Credit Manager for Woodward’s.

He says their oil tanker, The Mokami, arrived in Natuashish Tuesday evening.

The vessel was set to leave the community for Nain Wednesday morning.

The Mokami is expected to arrive in Nain late-Wednesday afternoon or Wednesday evening.

The decision to lift the price freeze is made by the Board of Commissioners of Public Utilities.

The board makes adjustments to fuel every Thursday, if necessary.

Consumers in Nunatsiavut will find out if the freeze on fuel prices is lifted on Thursday.
