Tribute Paid to Mary White During Wellness Weekend
A special tribute was paid to a Nain woman who was very active in honoring abstinence in her community during a wellness weekend earlier this month.
Sophie Ford helped organize a wellness weekend in Iggiak at the beginning of July.
She says the event brought together people from Nunatsiavut and the Upper Lake Melville region who choose to live an alcohol and drug-free life.
The wellness weekend was organized by Vale and the Nunatsiavut Government’s Department of Health.
Ford says the participants took time during the weekend to honour Mary White.
White was very active in her community’s hounouring abstinence program.
She lost a battle to cancer last month.
Ford says a suggestion was made to name the Healing Lodge in Iggiak after Mary White.
