Youth Taking Part in Summer Language and Culture Camp

A group of youth are heading to the Torngat Mountains National Park this weekend for a Summer Language and Culture Camp.

Heather Angnatok is the Youth Administrator and Director for the Division of Youth, Elders and Recreation.

She says nine young people from along the coast are taking part in this year’s camp.

The events planned include kayaking and seal skin cleaning and sewing.

Three instructors will be on hand to teach the youth the skills.

Elders will also be there to share their stories with the youth in attendance.

Angnatok says the group hopes to make it to the Hebron site for a tour of the church and to learn the area’s history.

She says she would like to extend a big thank you to the Executive Council of the Nunatsiavut Government for all of their support in making the camp possible.

The group is scheduled to fly to the Torngat Mountains base camp Saturday morning.
