Survey Sheds Light on Issues Affecting Nunatsiavut Seniors (Audio to be added later)

A recent survey conducted in most of the Nunatsiavut communities has shed some light on issues affecting seniors in the region.

Michelle Kinney is the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Development.

She says the Nunatsiavut Government conducted the survey with seniors in Hopedale, Makkovik, Postville and Rigolet.

The participants were asked about various issues such as housing, the cost of living and social issues.

The results of the survey showed that many of the seniors interviewed in the communities have a hard time living on a fixed income of $20,000 or less annually.

Issues of neglect, physical, verbal and financial abuse were also identified through the surveys.

Stay tuned to AtjiKangitut to hear the Deputy Minister discuss the results of the surveys in detail.
