Communication a Priority for LICST
Communication is the main priority for the Labrador Inuit Capital Strategy Trust as they move forward.
The LICST is a group of appointed trustees responsible for overseeing the trust.
The Labrador Inuit Development Corporation falls under their responsibilities.
Chair of the LICST, Clint Davis, says they met with the management of LIDC in Toronto this week.
Where the LIDC is in terms of their business plan was discussed during their meeting.
The LIDC approved its most detailed business plan to date last April.
Davis says things have been going smoothly in terms of the goals set out in their plan.
The plan aims to make use of the LIDC’s various assets.
Things have been turning around for the LIDC with the success of some of their recent ventures such as the Kangidluasuk Base Camp.
The LIDC, in partnership with CAI Logistics, recently received the contracts to deliver marine services to Labrador as well.
The creation of a more relevant and positive identity for the LIDC is also a goal of the trust.
Davis says they are looking to revise the LIDC’s vision, mission statement and mandate.
A new name for the LIDC was also discussed.
One possibility that was thrown around was ‘Nunatsiavut Group of Companies’.
Davis says they will be presenting a report on the trust to the Nunatsiavut Assembly this fall.
They will also prepare a report for Nunatsiavut beneficiaries in general as part of their mandate of better communication.
