Improvement in Condition of Nain Water

The condition of the water in Nain has seen some inmprovement a day after the community government declared a state of emergency.

Nain AngajukKak, Tony Andersen, credits the work of the town’s crews for the improvement.

He says they’ve been hard at work diverting streams from the town’s fresh water supply.

The Nain Inuit Community Government will run fresh water from Annaniak’s Brook to the community’s water well next week.

Andersen says they are waiting on some custom parts before the work can begin.

He expects the parts to arrive on Monday.

Two to three plane loads of bottled water will be flown into the Nain this weekend in the meantime.

Andersen says the water will be distributed to all households in the community.

Funding for the water was provided by the provincial Department of Municipal Affairs.

Residents of Nain are advised to continue boiling their drinking water until the boil water advisory has been lifted.
